Our apartment
The apartment Chris and I are staying in now was to be temporary, so I didn’t think about posting pictures of it; I was thinking I’d get to show you pictures of “our place”. Well, a few “extenuating circumstances” have arisen and we may end up staying here longer than we anticipated. Which is okay, especially the free rent part. I think I would have enjoyed looking for a place around the city, but we may still do that in the next few months. A lot depends on our financial situation and the ability of the lab to allow us to stay here (they have people coming in and out quite often so they may need the apartment back for guest use).
So, because I foresee us living here for awhile, I thought I’d show a few pictures. It’s still pretty empty because the lab just started renting it a few months ago. I’m actually going to Ikea tomorrow to buy a few things to make it more homey, which will be nice. So, here ya go:

The bathroom. The tub is on the right. It's one of those Euro Showers that doesn't have a shower curtain. Europeans love to splash water all over the floor, apparently. I try to plaster myself flush against the back wall to avoid causing a flood. You should see--uh, no, never mind. Awkward...

The bare bones bedroom. I'm completely in love with the European style of having two duvets. No more fighting over the covers! Correction: no more of Chris freezing at night because I, um, kind of steal all the covers. It's not my fault. I'm unconscious at the time.

The second room. Up until a few days ago, another artist was sleeping here. If we end up staying in the apartment, we may try to make this room more of a living/dining space.
So, that’s the apartment. Up until we arrived, the people staying here were all young, male artists who, while I’m sure they were lovely guys, didn’t know how to pick up a sponge and clean the bathroom. I’m pretty sure I was the first person in months to clean it.
I deserve some sort of medal.

That bathroom reminds me of a much nicer version of one we had to use in the Phillippines. Remember the one with the tiny “toilet” that got plugged in the corner and the whole room was a shower that didn’t drain? Didn’t you have the previlage of unclogging the toilet? Memories!
luv all the updates and pics…i got you on rss! it’s fun knowing what’s going on across the pond, thanks for sharing friend! news here: bob got his cargo bike up and rolling this weekend, i rode in the “cargo seat” all over the neighborhood on sunday… we’ll have to improve future rides, toushie was a hurtin’.
What a cozy apartment! Wow, I love the duvet idea-Kevin would too!
what you call “european style” of having two duvets is called “the only way to sleep” in the jaime and jacob household. and look, we’re still married after .5 years! proof. when you eventually come back here, you can bring the two duvets with ya.
Now I’m all caught up! And yahoooo – so long to the comment log-in!
Laura, you are a great writer; I’m enjoying your blog a great deal. And you write frequently, which is nice. I will check back more often.
The bird documentation with photo and text was wonderful. You are a hoot.
Hey Laura,
What a fabulous blog! I played catch-up with it today–your writing is fun and very entertaining to read. And the photos are great. It is fun to vicariously visit Budapest.
I’m glad things are going so well! And when they don’t–your “mood-swing” day reminded me of when I lived in Berlin. Most days things were fabulous and life could not be better or more interesting, but some days I would feel completely “meaningless;” I think that was a by-product of living in a completely different place, feeling like I had to create my entire context from scratch.
Thanks for doing such a cool thing with your life, and making such a nifty blog about it!
Hey Laura,
Enjoying the blog. Keep the updates coming.
Best,
Billy
