Home Sweet Home

A little over two weeks ago, Chris and I began looking for apartments here in Budapest. We had been living “temporarily” in the apartment owned by Chris’ workplace for the last three months and it was time to move. We needed a place we could call our own. Or at least call ourselves leasers. With the help and guidance of a number of friends, we found a great place that is still within walking distance of both our workplaces plus a short walk to the gym we just joined. The place is bright and cheery and we really like it. Strangely enough, it is far more “clean and new” than we usually like, but it’s kind of nice to have a clean slate to work with. It came furnished and we only had to buy a few things to brighten up the place.

The living room came with a free oil painting. And the furniture is actually quite comfortable. We have a TV now, but unlike our spoiled selves in the U.S. you have to pay for even basic channels here.

So right now its function is to hold the garland that was sent to me by three of my lovely friends known as the Blondies for Christmas. We also added the greenery and the curtains. It's a homey place to sit.

Our kitchen is the most wide open kitchen we've had in years. Chris as heard me complain far too many times about how much I hate to be confined in the kitchen. And now I'm free as a bird!

In fact, I am so free, I may never enter the kitchen again. Chris could cook and clean for me, I wouldn't mind.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to my favorite purchase of 2009. It's only January, but I can already predict that it's my best purchase. It's a laundry rack! Now I can dry everything in one easy spot, unlike our old place where clothes were strewn all over the house for days at a time.

Now I can dry everything in one easy spot, unlike our old place where clothes were strewn all over the house for days at a time. There was this one instance where we couldn't use our toilet because there was a jungle of clothes being dried in the bathroom. If there are any Europeans reading this I'm sure you are laughing right now, but us Americans have been spoiled for far too long with our "electric drying machines."

The toilet and the shower are separate rooms which has caused a bit of confusion late at night… I will say no more.

And since everyone we’ve told about the apartment has immediately asked when we are going to have a house-warming party, you should expect to see photos of that event in the very near future.
